About HelperPay

Free, careful tools for South African households that employ a domestic worker, so that paying and treating a worker fairly is easy to get right.

How the tools are checked

Every figure comes from a rule table that records its official source and the date it takes effect. The main sources are Sectoral Determination 7: Domestic Worker Sector (2002), the Basic Conditions of Employment Act as amended, the 2026 national minimum wage notice, Department of Employment and Labour and UIF guidance, and the Compensation Fund's notice on domestic employers. Each tool shows its sources and when they were last checked; this site was last reviewed on 30 October 2026.

The calculations are covered by automated tests, including worked examples. Where we could not confirm a figure from an official source, the tool says so and labels it as unverified.

What we are not

We are not lawyers or a government department, and nothing here is legal advice. For a dispute, contact the Department of Employment and Labour or the CCMA.

How the site is paid for

The tools are free and may show clearly labelled display advertising. We do not use affiliate or referral links, and adverts do not affect any calculation. We are planning optional paid features, such as saved workers and monthly payslip reminders; the free tools will stay free.
